Our story
You've probably arrived here because you found a website offering to help with one of the most important pieces of paperwork of your life, and you'd reasonably like to know who is behind it.
The honest answer is that we're not a law firm or a tech company. We're a UK couple who did this ourselves, twice, and found parts of it much harder than they needed to be.
How we got here
Our journey started in 2022. We spent a full year researching — the UK, Cyprus, the USA, Canada, Albania, Argentina — before we found our way to Colombia. What decided it wasn't only the legal clarity or the medical standards, though both mattered. It was the warmth we met from the very first conversation. It simply felt right.
We took our time choosing an agency and a clinic, because we wanted to trust the people who'd be guiding us completely.

- We travelled back to Colombia — this time with our son — to bring our daughter home.
That moment changed everything, and not in the way we'd expected. We'd braced for joy. What we hadn't anticipated was how thoroughly it would rearrange us — what we were frightened of, what we thought we could cope with, how we listen to someone who's in the middle of something hard.
Both births were extraordinary in their own way. Our family felt complete.
Then we came home, and there was the paperwork
This is the part that doesn't make the photo albums.
A child born abroad through surrogacy isn't automatically yours in the eyes of UK law, and isn't automatically British. Putting that right means a court application, within six months of the birth, using forms written for people with legal training. We did it twice.
In our caseHaving spent a huge sum of money on the surrogacy journey, we were very sensitive to further costs. Having contacted three separate lawyers we were shocked to find that their costs were between 6 and 10 thousand pounds. The pressure of knowing we were due at the Royal Courts of Justice to prove our parental rights felt like a burden we could do without.
What stayed with us afterwards was how much of that difficulty was unnecessary. The law is the law — the six-month deadline from birth is real and it doesn't bend. But the confusion was avoidable. Nobody had set the process out in order. Nobody had said plainly: this is paperwork, not legal argument, and you are capable of doing it yourselves.
Why we built PO Navigator
SOL Surrogacy came first, out of a straightforward wish to be useful — sharing what we'd learned about Colombia with people considering the same path, honestly and without an agenda.
Doing that, we kept encountering the same scene. A new parent, a laptop, a court form written in a language nobody speaks, a deadline they'd only half understood, and a solicitor's quote for thousands of pounds they hadn't planned for.
Different families, the same evening, each one convinced they were the only person struggling.
PO Navigator is our answer to that. It takes you through the C51 and everything that goes with it, keeps track of your dates, and assembles the court bundle in the order the court expects to receive it. It exists so that evening doesn't have to happen to you.
Paying it forward
When we were starting out and knew nothing, other intended parents helped us. They shared their experience, answered our questions, and told us the things nobody puts on a website — and they wanted absolutely nothing in return.
You can't repay that. The surrogates who carried our children with such care, the clinic and agency teams who did their jobs properly, the strangers who replied to our messages — there's no settling up with any of them. The only thing you can do is pass it on.
So that's what this is. It's why the full guide is free. It's why the two-minute check is free, and why it will sometimes tell you that you don't need us at all. And it's why we'd rather point you towards a specialist solicitor than take money for a situation we're not the right fit for.
What we're not
Being straight about our limits matters to us more than sounding impressive.
We're not a law firm. PO Navigator gives guidance, not legal advice; we don't represent you, and we can't promise you what a court will do. Where a situation is genuinely complicated — payments beyond reasonable expenses, a surrogate's consent in doubt, a question about domicile — you need a specialist solicitor, and we'll say so.
We're two people who went through this, found it harder than it should have been, and built the thing we wish had existed.
